I mean, he is not wrong: in the 1930’s the US literally forbade its citizens to join the antifascist militias trying to fight against the fascist takeover of Spain. And after that, the US had spent a century fighting against anti fascist and anti authoritarian movements all over the world.

This figurine is from Catal Huyuk in Turkey and is around 8,000 years old. I see people online argue not infrequently that there was absolutely no way that there were fat people so long ago. That everyone was malnourished while doing hard labour and was therefore wiry and muscular and life was “nasty, brutish, and short”.

I want you to look at this figurine. Really look at it. There is such evident care taken to accurately and beautifully depict this fat woman. The way the belly hangs, and the shape of the belly button, the slopes of the arms and hips, and the gentle crease in the knees. This piece just feels so incredibly lifelike to me. How could this artist have made this piece of work if they had literally never seen a fat person in their entire life, I wonder?

Fat people have always existed.
